Mr Sowah who was speaking on Accra-based Star FM, said his outfit has reached out to the Ministry of Works and Housing on the issue but he is yet to receive any feedback from the ministry. "If it rains heavily tomorrow, there is going to be a challenge around the Odaw areas," he observed, noting that "the Odaw River is chocked and will become a big challenge to the AMA in saving lives in case the heavy down pours begin.” Mr Sowah, however, explained that government has secured an initial funding of US$150, 000,000 from the World Bank to

Asking girls not to wear mini-skirt due to rape ‘nonsense’ – Sister Deborah

Image
Ghanaian musician, Sister Deborah says cautioning females against the wearing of mini-skirt to help curb rape activities doesn’t make sense to her. According to her, she thinks what a girl chooses to wear is no excuse for any man to rape her. She explained that anyone with a clear conscience and a clean mind wouldn’t rape one wearing a mini or a short skirt. “It is like telling me not to wear a nice shirt or use a nice phone because it will be stolen. This is total nonsense, because if you steal or you rape it is a sin and anyone with a good mind will not do that. Besides, we should be dressing according to the weather; why should we suffer in this weather wearing suit and tie all the time?” she quizzed. Speaking on Accra FM on Thursday, she added that no one has the right to anybody’s body and therefore shouldn’t be affected when anyone decides to show some skin. “Does exposing my skin chock the gutters with dirt? Does it cause the cedi to drop? I mean I don’t see why exp

The midfielders also tend to do the dirty work for the team, so that their attackers can do the damage upfield. It was pretty difficult to pick out the top 10 midfielders in the world at the moment, as there have been a number of brilliant performances in the middle of the park. Before beginning with the slideshow, here are the midfielders who just missed out from this list. Honorable mentions: Thiago Alcantara ( Bayern Munich), Casemiro ( Real Madrid), Luka Modric ( Real Madrid), Thomas Partey ( Atletico Madrid), Miralem Pjanic ( Juventus), Piotr Zielinski ( Napoli), Marc

Opium is a reddish-brown, heavily scented addictive drug prepared from the juice of the opium poppy plant and used illicitly as a narcotic. According to Dr Omuojine, the substance, which the youth consume to make them ‘high’, was more dangerous than tramadol, as it could easily cause mental illness. He disclosed that the Psychiatric Unit at KATH had been flooded lately with such patients who confessed to taking ‘tie’ because the intake of marijuana or tramadol alone was not enough to get them ‘high’. Speaking to the Daily Graphic during the opening of a 10-day training programme organised by the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) in Kumasi yesterday, the psychiatrist said the alarming rate at which cases connected to the consumption of ‘tie’ were

Quick Pregnancy Safe After Stillbirth, Study Finds

Image
There is no reason to delay having another baby after a stillbirth, research in the Lancet suggests. Although women are often told to wait for a year before getting pregnant again, there is little evidence to back up this advice. This international study of 14,000 births found no increased risk of problems if conception happened earlier. A UK stillbirth expert said the findings were important and reassuring. About one in every 225 births in the UK ends in stillbirth, which is defined as the death of a baby after 24 weeks of pregnancy in the UK. However, in this study, a stillbirth is defined as a baby's death after 22 weeks' pregnancy. Stillbirth rates have been gradually reducing in the UK since 2000, and more sharply since 2015, but compared with many other European countries, improvements in the UK have been slow. In many countries there is limited guidance available on planning future pregnancies after stillbirth, the study says. Manchester University's
