The US Embassy in Ghana has warned that there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050. According to a post on their official Facebook page, the embassy stated that about 82% of Ghana’s plastics waste could be recovered and recycled with existing technologies into value-added products valued at GHC2 billion per year, creating 5 million jobs within the economy. The embassy noted that less than 2% of 3,000 tonnes of plastic waste generated in Ghana every day are recycled. “More than 250,000 tonnes, or 23%, of all plastic waste generated in a year in Ghana are expected to flow into the Atlantic Ocean. By 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by weight,” the post reads on. Power Distribution Services (PDS), the main distributor of electricity in the Southern Zone of Ghana, has blamed the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) for the power outages observed in some parts of the country on Saturday, April 20, 2019. According to the power distributor in a statement, the outages were “due to unstable power supply from GRIDCo.” It says “customers should please note that immediately GRIDCo rectifies the situation, power supply will be restored to the affected areas.” PDS and GRIDCo have been blaming each other for the erratic power supply situation popularly known as dumsor in the local parlance. A total of eight married women are on death sentences at the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons, DGN Online can confirm. The Nsawam Medium Security Prisons Chaplain, Chief Superintendent of Prisons, Martin Padi, made the disclosure on Saturday when this portal visited the prisons. According to him, the women were behind bars for crimes they committed against their husbands. He did not state exactly the various crimes they committed but said most of the issues that led to the crimes being committed bordered on cheating. According to him, there were about 3,450 inmates at the Nsawam Prisons. He said there were some considered condemned, convict and those on remand. Snakes have been found in Liberian President George Weah's office, forcing him to work from his private residence, the BBC has learnt. Press secretary Smith Toby told the BBC that on Wednesday two black snakes were found in the foreign affairs ministry building, his official place of work. All staff have been told to stay away until 22 April. "It's just to make sure that crawling and creeping things get fumigated from the building," Mr Toby said. "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosts the office of the president, so it did an internal memo asking the staff to stay home while they do the fumigation," he said. The office of the president has been based in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since a fire in 2006 gutted the nearby presidential mansion. A mobile currency exchange vendor who outwitted two suspected robbers by giving them a bag stuffed with rags instead of one with $60,000 received gunshots in his leg and the back of his head in the precincts of the Fiesta Royale Hotel at Dzorwulu in Accra last Friday. The victim (name withheld) was taken to the Police Hospital in Accra by some Good Samaritans. The Accra Regional Police Command has mounted a search for the suspected robbers who bolted on a motorbike after shooting the victim. There is no doubt that Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale is one of the biggest musicians in Ghana and with a huge fanbase that is completely loyal and will do almost anything he says. However, Highlife musician Anthony Akablay, says Shatta Wale is having a negative impact on the youth. “With his large fan base I don’t expect Shatta Wale to use certain words and engage in indecent acts. I know he has the largest fan base in Ghana at the moment but what impact is he making on them? More than 297,000 prank calls were received by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) between December 24 last year and January 2 this year. On the average, the Fire Service received prank calls from 4,000 different phone numbers and 29,700 different calls on a daily basis within the period. The Assistant Fire Master at the Fire Service Control Room, Divisional Officer Grade II (DOII) Mrs Joyce Ghansah, disclosed this to the Daily Graphic in an interview in Accra last Thursday. A prank call, also known as crank call, is a telephone call intended by the caller as a practical joke played on the answering person. It is a type of nuisance call. Within 10 minutes of the Daily Graphic reporter arriving at the Master Control Room, about 30 prank calls were received. The Swiss government wants to put an end to its emergency stockpile of coffee after declaring that it is "not essential" for human survival. Switzerland began storing emergency reserves of coffee between World War One and World War Two in preparation for potential shortages. It continued in subsequent decades to combat shortages sparked by war, natural disasters or epidemics. It now hopes to end the practice by late 2022. But opposition is mounting. It currently has 15,300 tonnes saved up - that's enough to last the country three months. Why stop this? The government now says coffee is "not essential for life" so doesn't need to be included in the emergency reserves. Menzgold Chief Executive Nana Appiah Mensah has expressed his gratitude to God hours after he was acquitted and discharge in Dubai over his case in court. Regional Director of the Greater Accra National Disaster Management Organization [NADMO], Mr Evans Anakwa says persons living in flood prone areas must with immediate effect relocate. He explained that, the country will be expecting thunderstorms and heavy rains as the raining season approaches. His warning comes after a heavy downpour Sunday night in some parts of the country killing at least two and destroying properties. Mr Evans Anakwa described the death as “unfortunate” in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’. “Be at a safer place when it’s raining and relocate if you live in a flooding area,” he advised.

A dying nurse has begged God for forgiveness while confessing that she swapped thousands of babies while she was working as a nurse in UTH. Elizabeth Mwewa, a nurse who worked at University Teaching Hospital, formerly called Lusaka Hospital, in Lusaka, Zambia, confessed on her sick bed that she exchanged the babies of thousands of new mothers while she worked at the maternity ward of UTH. Elizabeth Bwalya Mwewa now suffers from cancer and, as she lay on her sickbed, she confessed to all her crimes. She said on Monday: "May God Forgive me for my sins." She added: "I used to swap babies at UTH for fun." She continued: "I have terminal cancer and I know I will be dying soon. The reputation of an economical guru that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia had built for himself whilst in opposition has completely evaporated since the NPP came into power and he actually had to run the economy. A 36-year-old unemployed man who got frustrated over washing the panties of his wife was arrested Sunday by the police at Agona Nkwanta for attempting to spiritually harm the woman he claimed has neglected him. The man, Emmanuel Obeng, who married the successful businesswoman last December, claimed his wife [name withheld], was being promiscuous and has failed to take care of him since losing his job.
