State will assist in Christian Atsu's funeral - President Akufo-Addo

  President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has announced that the state will assist the family of the late Ghanaian football international, Christian Atsu, to give the soccer star a befitting funeral. President Akufo-Addo said he has instructed the chief of staff at the office of the President, Madam Akosua Frema Osei Opare, to liaise with the family, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to ensure that the decision government is executed. Tension mounting in Begoro over alleged attempts to enstool new chief

Tension is mounting in Begoro in the Fanteakwa North District following alleged attempts by Okyehene Amoatia Ofori Panin, the overlord of the Akyem Abuakwa State to install a new Begorohene on Thursday, March 2, 2023. Members of the Asona Royal Family who held a press conference on Monday in Begoro accused Okyehene Amoatia Ofori Panin of trying to circumvent tried and tested customs by imposing one Amfo Amoamaa without the consent of legitimate kingmakers and Abakomahene of Begoro. According to the Asona Royal Family, even though there is a pending case at the national house of chiefs restraining all parties, the Okyehene through his secretary has issued a notice to still carry out the installation process, a situation they say will threaten the peace being enjoyed in the area. Contaminated fuel incident: Court directs Shell, aggrieved customer to settle issue amicably

  An Accra High Court has ordered the parties in a suit in which a dissatisfied customer sued oil marketing company, Vivo Energy Ghana Limited, operators of Shell fuel outlets in Ghana for allegedly selling contaminated fuel to him, to reach a settlement agreement. The customer, Edmund Barwuah, who bought the petrol laced with water at the Atimpoku Shell filling station in the Eastern Region, filed the suit on September 19, 2022. Edmund Barwuah said he purchased the diluted fuel on August 28, 2022, at Atimpoku near the Adomi Bridge. Among other things, the complainant wanted the court to compel the defendant to pay him $2.5 million as compensation for the damage to his car, a business meeting he missed on the said day, which he said could have resulted in a business deal worth more than the $2.5million due to Vivo Energy’s negligence. Bawku violence: Don’t engage military in combat – REGSEC warns locals

 The Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has appealed to feuding factions in Bawku to stop engaging in the exchange of fire with military officers. The appeal follows reports of the military killing seven civilians in Bawku in the Upper East Region. The accusation which was first made by the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has been refuted by the Ghana Armed Forces. The military, however, claimed that they engaged some armed men and in the process neutralised six people. “In a separate incident, sporadic firing was heard around Sabongari General Area. A Patrol Team dispatched to assess the situation spotted unknown armed men at Gozesi-Valley side in Sabongari wearing black T-shirts with Black Hoodies. Troops engaged them and neutralised six (6) armed men. Police probe viral video of alleged misconduct of its officer

 The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into an alleged incident at the West Hills Mall that led to the death of a 32-year-old man, Shadrach Arloo. In a press release dated January 31, 2023, the Police administration said its officials had contacted a relative of the deceased, Perpetual Didier, who first made the allegation in a viral audio. “The attention of the Police Service has been drawn to a viral video in which a female who identifies herself as Perpetual Didier alleges that the action of a Police Officer has caused the death of her brother. “The Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) has commenced investigation into the allegation and has contacted Madam Perpetual Didier to assist the investigation,” Assist. Superintendent of Police, Victor K Dosso assured in the press release.
