The governments of Ghana and the United States of America (USA) have come to a compromise in their efforts to deport undocumented Ghanaian immigrants. This follows the U.S. government’s concern that the government of Ghana was not complying with international obligations regarding the issuance of travel documents to Ghanaians awaiting deportation. The U.S. Embassy in Accra followed up with a statement saying the U.S. will be forced to begin implementing a visa restrictions regime in accordance with their laws as a responsibility owed to the American people if the government of Ghana did not play ball. Ghana Ready To Transmit Energy Across West Africa

 Ghana currently has adequate capacity for cross border transmission of energy to neighbouring countries. This is because the implementation of regional projects, including the 225kv Bolgatanga-Ouagadougou Interconnection, which would allow for the export of power from Ghana to Burkina Faso, to serve the purpose of the creation of the West African Power Pool, the Minister for Energy John Peter Amewu has said. According to the Minister, given the huge financial outlay for electricity infrastructure, particularly for power generation infrastructure, it is only appropriate that such facilities were shared within the Region. Ghana Immigration To Deport 73 Foreign Nationals

Seventy-two Nigerians and a Togolese, all women, are to be deported by the Enforcement Unit of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) for being in the country illegally. Some of the deportees were also said to have engaged in prostitution in Ghana, apart from lacking the requisite resident permits. They were arrested along with nine Ghanaians in a swoop at the Redco Flats neighbourhood at Madina in Accra Thursday dawn. The Ghanaians are to be handed over to the Ghana Police Service for prosecution. Press briefing The 2IC at the Public Affairs of the GIS, Deputy Superintendent of Immigration (DSI), Linda Asare Mantey, at a press briefing said the swoop was based on intelligence the service gathered. According to her, 20 of the suspects were arrested at the Junior Hotel at Madina whilst the rest were arrested in the same vicinity, which is noted for prostitution activities.
