I Don't Rejoice About Misfortune - Anas Reacts To Nyantakyi's Life Ban

Image
Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas says he is not rejoicing after FIFA handed a lifetime ban to former Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi who was implicated in a bribery sting operation. The undercover investigation masterminded by Anas and his Tiger Eye PI company and was published in a documentary titled Number12. Number12 filmed Nyantakyi taking $65,000 (£48,000) from an undercover reporter pretending to be a businessman. The documentary also formed the basis of Anas' petition to the world governing football body, FIFA to investigate allegations of corruption against the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi. Anas who is speaking at the ongoing African Investigative Journalism Conference in Johannesburg said Number12 fought a system and not a personality. "I haven't seen the story yet and so I would at this stage just say no comment," Anas said. "A lot of these issues are in court and strat

I’m Not Happy At Zylofon – Stonebwoy

Image
Stonebwoy, after more than a year of signing to Zylofon Music, says he has no plans of renewing the contract. Born Livingstone Etse Satekla, the dancehall artiste said the contract that was signed in June 2015 will not be extended because he is not happy at the label. The Ashiaman-based artiste joined highlife musician Kumi Guitar and singer Becca, who were earlier signed by the media and entertainment outfit. Gospel musician Joyce Blessing, rapper Obibini and dancehall act Shatta Wale joined the label after that. His time at Zylofon Music has been without drama. There was a nasty incident at the Champs Bar at Paloma in March this year where Stonebwoy fired a warning shot and Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson (Bulldog) allegedly tried to seize the dancehall act’s car keys. Asked on Joy FM if he is happy at Zylofon Music, Stonebwoy swiftly responded “no”. He noted that Zylofon Music has good intentions but all is not well at the label. The ‘Baafira’ hitmaker revealed that he

Tragedy As Student Stabs Classmate To Death

Image
A 14-year-old student of West Ridge Junior High School in Sekondi/Takoradi has been stabbed to death by his classmate. The tragic incident happened Thursday, October 25 during what school authorities and police say started as a usual boyhood prank between two classmates. The victim, a final Junior High School student, was said to be copying his notes while his mate now turned suspect, teased him. According to the police, the victim who felt irritated over the persistent teasing by his colleague, then threw his hand to ward him off. In the process, the pen he was copying his notes with, which was in his hand, pricked his teasing friend, who angrily retaliated by stabbing him in the chest with an implement suspected to be a compass. The police said the victim who was bleeding profusely, was rushed to the hospital but died on Friday, October 26, which happens to be his 14th birthday. When contacted, the Ghana Education Service’s (GES) Metropolitan Public Relations Officer,

May Psalm 109 Be Your Portion For Lying Against Me – Benedicta Gafah

Image
Kumahood actress Benedicta Gafah has ‘cursed’ actress Xandy Kamel with the words from Psalm 109 for lying against her. There have been rumours on social media that the Accra based Kumawood actress led Xandy Kamel to see a fetish priest in order for her to be famous but reacting to the rumour in an interview with Abeiku Santana on UTV, Benedicta denied the allegation and rained curses on whoever was behind the falsehood. She was asked why she took Xandy to see a fetish priest “Juju man” all in search of fame. The confused looking actress replied saying,” I have not taken Xandy or anybody to see a fetish priest, whoever is spreading this is clearly spreading falsehood but if I have not taken her to see any “juju man” or if I have and I am denying it, may psalm 109 be our portion” she said. When asked why she cursed, Benedicta said, “there are certain allegations that are indefensible, there is nothing I can do or say to defend myself so let God be our judge and the

I Respect Time – Shatta Wale On Why Stonebowy, Samini Couldn’t Perform At “Reign” Launch

Image
Self aclaimed dancehall artist, Shatta Wale has explained that his reason for not allowing Samini and Stonebowy to perform at his ‘Reign’ album launch was due to their failure to inform him of their intention prior to the event. According to the "Kakai" hit-maker, although he has a cordial relationship with the two, it was inappropriate for them to spring a surprise on him in that manner. He said: "Samini is my friend and if i want to go to his show, i will call him, a week or two weeks before but you can't move into my show and expect that..." At the launch of the "Reign" album about a fortnight ago, Samini tweeted that he and Stonebowy tried to spring a surprise performance at Shatta Wale's event but they were refused the gesture after waiting for about an hour. Shatta Wale in a response apologised to the two, saying that he was not aware that they were at the concert. However, in an interview on Accra-based Joy FM, Shatta Wale, citi

Samsung Sues Its Own Brand Ambassador For Using An iPhone On TV - PHOTO

Image
Samsung is suing one of its brand ambassadors after she was caught on TV using an iPhone X. Usually, brands pay celebrities a huge amount of money to promote their brands and front only their brands in public. Samsung has paid celebrities like musician Adam Levine and tennis star David Ferrer to use Samsung smartphones. But, both of those celebrities have been caught using iPhones instead. Now, Samsung is done letting it slide. Ksenia Sobchak - who is a Russian journalist, politician, and reality TV star - is the ambassador for Samsung in Russia. She is paid to exclusively use Samsung electronics in public but she was recently captured on a live television stint using an iPhone. Sobchak, who is reportedly the "goddaughter" of Russian President Vladimir Putin, tried her best by using her fingers to hide the Apple logo on the iPhone. She also tried using a piece of paper to hide it on the table. But she wasn't very successful. Sobchak has apparently been caught

Investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has always spoken about his love for Reggae music by indicating that he gets most of his inspirations from listening to reggae songs. The renowned investigative journalist has, for the first time, shared his views on the Ghanaian music industry and his views about Shatta Wale’s supposed “beef” with his fellow colleagues in the industry. Anas who was speaking at the maiden launch of Politics and Power Magazine when asked what he thinks about “beefs” in the industry, said he loved the “beefs”, saying he wished to wake up in the morning to hear about one artiste fighting the other. “Oh well, to be honest, I love the beef. I don’t have any side. I love to get up in the morning and hear that Sarkodie is fighting with M.anifest. It’s just lovely. Because, knowing Sarkodie and knowing M.anifest, they won’t pick knives. It is just the beauty of our country. When you wake up and you hear Wale and Stonebwoy, and Wale and Samini, it is beau

A dietician at the Urgent Care Private Hospital, Samuel Hanyor has cautioned Ghanaians to be measured in their intake of smoked meats since they contain carcinogenic substances. According to him, a study conducted by The American Cancer Society, revealed that consuming high amounts of smoked meat and salted fish increases one’s risk of getting stomach cancer. In an interview with Graphic Online in Accra, Mr Hanyor said smoke is very dangerous especially when it goes through food and added that “it can lead to the development of cancer if we don’t take this issue seriously.” According to him, a study conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health also pointed out that eating smoked meats or processed meats increases one's risk of stroke, heart disease and type 2 diabetes significantly. Mr Hanyor explained that the Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) which are mostly produced when one has flames over food is very dangerous to the human body. Polycyclic aromatic hy

Wizkid Apologizes For Performing In Slippers At Glo Concert

Image
Wizkid in Slippers on stage in Ghana  Nigerian superstar musician, Wizkid, wrapped up performances for the Glo Mega concert in Accra on Saturday night in a rather casual fashion. He came on stage in a black hoodie over a pair of jeans. Underneath it was his pair of slippers over pair of his socks. However, minutes into his performance, he paused to render an apology to the fans and respectable people in the audience, asking them to forgive him for wearing a pair of slippers on stage. He explained he meant no disrespect; rather it was because he arrived in Ghana an hour to his performance. That, he revealed, prevented him from wearing something else. “Ghana… I like to take this opportunity to apologise for performing in slippers,” he added briefly. The Glo concert was held at the Fantasy Dome on Saturday night and it ended Sunday morning with all the glitz and glamour. There were great performances from some of Africa’s celebrated

Why We Went Half-Naked - Ben Brako Explains

Image
Highlife legend Ben Brako has given the reason behind posing half-naked with his wife. The 66 year old musician posted the picture with his wife cladded in beads and African cloth on social media and his fans did not take kindly to it. However in a post on facebook, he explains:  “Seems some people have not followed the sequence of events that led to me posting a picture of me and my wife in an intimate pose. "First I posted a beautiful picture of my wife in a classy traditional pose. Somebody suggested that I was like exploiting the feminism of my wife, and that I should post a shot of myself in a similar setting. I obliged only because I wanted it known that I'm comfortable in myself to project images that reflect my heritage in a tasty setting. "Let me be clear. In an era where we're so mixed up in our mentality that we accept English as our national language, where our national anthem is an English song with English lyrics, where our people are obl

Shatta’s proposal, performance were scripted, we had no room for surprises – Zylofon

Image
Communications Manager of Zylofon Music, Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo has revealed that everything including Shatta Wale’s proposal to Shatta Michy at the launch of the ‘Reign’ album was scripted. Mr Asamoah-Baidoo insists Samini and Stonebwoy’s attempt to surprise Shatta Wale at the launch of the album at the Fantasy Dome was impossible because, the team had an agreed line up that could not accommodate surprises. “When somebody says somebody is a surprise act as members of the audience, it is a surprise to us but no surprise to the members of the organising team and the surprise act. There’s some form of planning that goes into even introducing the surprise act…. So if that did not transpire at the ‘Reign’, I do not see the need for this conversation,” he said. One major discourse after the successful launch of dancehall artiste Shatta Wale’s album is the inability of his perceived rivals, Samini and Stonebwoy, to mount the stage after the two uninvited musicians showed up at

Stop sabotaging us – KiDi replies critics

Image
IF there is one artiste who has experienced equal parts of applause and ridicule then it is one of Lynx Entertainment’s new artiste, KiDi. While he is loved for his looks, voice and fashion style, he is ridiculed by some for his lyrics. When he dropped his current song, ‘Thunder’, it was well received but there were those who felt a line in the song such as, If I leave you, make thunder fire me, was not right. For people such as Adom FM’s presenter, Mike 2 and Pastor Kumchacha, the young man had cursed himself. However, when Showbiz recently caught up with him in the Lynx Studios, KiDi said, “it is unfortunate that some section of Ghanaians want to bring into being what is not. “Music is art, it is literature, we exaggerate; the fact that Romeo said he would die for Juliet did not mean he would go and stand on the battlefield for her, he was expressing the extent to which he loved her. “See, people should stop sabotaging our music and appreciate us more, a Nigerian will d

Some ladies wear 6 foam-padded trousers for curves – Dr Obengfo

Image
The Director of the Advanced Body Sculpt Centre (Obengfo Hospital) has said some women wear multiple pairs of trousers padded with rubber and foam to force-contour their body to achieve hot curves. Dr. Obeng-Andoh, who was speaking on Accra FM, Thursday, 10 October 2018, said: “Some women naturally have beautiful shapes, they haven’t taken any medication or done body sculpting; that’s how their bodies are, others do body sculpting. “Some women, let me tell you, use foam and rubber; some wear three to six trousers or shorts and stuff their hips and buttocks with panties or butt pads or artificial buttocks and hips to enhance their body shape. “They put on their clothes and it looks perfect on them, so, someone standing outside will say: ‘They have a beautiful shape’, but there are others who do body sculpting. God has given us the intellect to do it, so, when you see her and she doesn’t tell you, you wouldn’t know because you won’t see any scars and you can’t tell they have don

Sarkodie's 'Advice' Yields Results? Check Shatta Wale's Number Plate

Image
Dancehall artiste and leader of the Shatta Movement, Shatta Wale, seems to have heeded an advice served him by rapper Sarkodie three days to the launch of his Reign album. Sarkodie’s advice was embedded in his song titled “My Advice” obviously targeted at Shatta Wale in which the rapper was seen in the music video comfortably sipping a glass of an unknown liquid substance. The song which  gained a lot of traction and trended on social media platforms since its release urged Shatta Wale to stay focused on his music career and stop bragging about a flashy life. It in  parts alluded to the fact that a Benz car does not talk but it is regarded the best car. While some industry players and music lovers commend Sarkodie for the song, especially the dexterity he exhibited in his  rap, the Shatta Movement and other Shatta Wale fans did not take the song as an advice to their “god”. Interestingly, Shatta Wale took to twitter to post a picture of a Toyota land cruiser and a Merced

Image
President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia acknowledging cheers from the NABCO personnel  One hundred thousand (100,000) young men and women recruited under the National Builders Corps (NABCO) yesterday began a new journey, bringing to an end to their long search for jobs. This was during the passing out of beneficiaries of one of the NPP government’s flagship programmes NABCO at the Independence Square in Accra. Speaking at the passing out ceremony, an elated President Akufo-Addo quoted Psalm 118 verse 24 of the Bible, which says “this is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. “Today is a very happy day for me. It is a day when we begin the process of banishing the spectre of desperation and restoring hope and dignity to our youth.” He slammed critics who did not only ridicule but also ruled out the possibility of implementing the programme launched in May 1, 2018. What baffled him was the fact that some even went to the e

Okada Has Gone Beyond Police Control - MTTD

The Head of Research and Programmes of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Obeng says the use of motorbikes for commercial purposes has gone beyond police control. Consequently, he has called for policy intervention to deal with the situation, describing the issue as a “challenge across the country.” According to him, out of every 100 road related accidents, 30 of them are from motorbike accidents, which often leave victims with critical injuries. Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Obeng was speaking in an interview with Graphic Online on the risks associated with the use of motorbikes for commercial purposes. He said from January to December in 2017, 2,190 motorbikes were involved in crushes, and pointed out that as of September this year, 2,538 motorbike crushes have been recorded. The use of motorcycles for commercial purposes, popularly called ‘okada’ has been a tug of war between operators and the

ALERT! Police Warns Against Rental Fraudsters

Image
The Accra Regional Police Command wants persons searching for apartments to be more vigilant in dealing with agents. This is due to multiple reports of some unscrupulous persons who have succeeded several times in defrauding apartment seekers. According to the police, these fraudsters pose as accommodation agents while their partners pose as the landlords. “After a successful agreement is reached between the two parties, and payments made, the syndicate absconds leaving the tenant in limbo,” the statement said. The police advise prospective tenants to conduct thorough checks on apartments before committing themselves financially. Photo IDs and other forms of identification should be demanded from the parties being dealt with, the statement said.

Why Lie? Stonebwoy Asks Shatta Wale

Image
Stonebwoy has also responded to Shatta Wale’s claim that he did not know Stonebwoy and Samini were prevented from staging a surprise act at the ‘Reign’ concert. Earlier today, Samini tweeted that he and Stonebwoy had wanted to surprise Shatta Wale with a performance at his album launch which was held at the Fantasy Dome on Saturday, but they were not allowed. “Congrats @shattawalegh on your album launch.just like you once wanted to surprise me on saminifest stage and I let you, I’d wanted to do the same but I waited in the car together with @stonebwoyb for over an hour only to be told you refused the gesture. #supportourown huh??” he had tweeted. Even though Samini did not mention who particularly prevented them from performing at the album launch of their ‘rival,’ some had perceived that it might have been an order from Shatta Wale. I’m sorry you weren’t ‘allowed’ to perform at my concert – Shatta to Samini Shatta Wale then replied Samini’s tweet, saying he did not know of

First Copy Of ‘Reign’ Album Auctioned For GHC150,000

Image
Mr. and Mrs. Sleg shocked patrons of the Reign concert and album launch as they bought the first copy for GHC150,000 although Shatta Wale whose album was being launched had said he was selling the first copy for GHC100,000. The ‘Reign’ album has seventeen tracks. According to the artiste, although he loves all the songs on the album, his favourite is Exodus because it is inspired by his real life struggles. Anticipation was high among Ghanaians as Shatta Wale launched his second album at the Fantasy Dome, Saturday. Prior to the launch, Shatta Wale had been teasing fans as he dropped a number of singles including Gringo and Amount off the album. The four-hour event saw the self-acclaimed dancehall king perform some of his old and newest tracks to the fans who had thronged the venue to support him. Shatta Wale rocked the stage alongside Michy, Zylofon Arts Club acts as well as the Militants. Although there were several technical hitches which caused some disruptions, the aud

Shatta Wale Proposes To Michy At ‘Reign’ Concert; Kisses Her Passionately

Image
It was the biggest surprise on the night as Shatta Wale joined Michy on stage midway through her performance and asked her to marry him. A visibly shocked Michy hugged Shatta Wale who later kissed her passionately while their three-year-old son, Majesty, wandered on the stage. The baby mama of the dancehall artiste recently asked Ghanaians to desist from tagging her with the Shatta brand. “I want people to accept me for me, not tag me to that brand even though I have been a part of the story. I just want to be known for me, it is like owning my brand. I have been a part of the story, building the empire” she said. This followed news of a breakup as Shatta Wale was alleged to have assaulted Michy. In what appeared to be a reunion which could lead to marriage, the two kissed for almost a minute with patrons cheering them on. The proposal was sealed with a performance of their song, ‘Low Tempo’ after which Shatta Wale performed ‘Bulletproof’ by way of assuring Michy of love

You are tired of me yet you still talk about me – Shatta Wale jabs

Image
Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale has brushed off comments that the media is tired of him because of his controversies. He finds it difficult to comprehend how the media can be tired of him and still talk about him. The controversial singer was reacting to entertainment pundit and host of ‘You Say Watin’, Prince Tsegah, who said he is of the strong conviction that Ghana’s media is tired of Shatta Wale. According to Mr Tsegah, the artiste’s constant attacks of other artistes and inconsistent posture, seem to have made him lose some friends in the media. Reacting to the comments in an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM with Andy Dosty, the ‘Freedom’ hit singer said: “Me I want to eat so if I don’t create any controversy, how can I eat?” “Nobody should watch Shatta Wale and say I don’t respect…” he said and stressed that the media “should understand that this is how the job is done.” He wondered why the media will say they are tired of him but “you guys are still talking

Ghana Ready To Transmit Energy Across West Africa

Image
Ghana currently has adequate capacity for cross border transmission of energy to neighbouring countries. This is because the implementation of regional projects, including the 225kv Bolgatanga-Ouagadougou Interconnection, which would allow for the export of power from Ghana to Burkina Faso, to serve the purpose of the creation of the West African Power Pool, the Minister for Energy John Peter Amewu has said. According to the Minister, given the huge financial outlay for electricity infrastructure, particularly for power generation infrastructure, it is only appropriate that such facilities were shared within the Region. John Amewu was addressing the inauguration ceremony on Friday, 5th October, 2018, of the 225 kilovolts Bolgatanga to Ouagadougou Power Interconnection Project, which will see up to 100 megawatts of power supplied directly to Burkina Faso from Ghana. “Implementation of regional projects, like this 225kv Bolgatanga-Ouagadougou Interconnection one, would allow

Sex For Grades: UPSA Dismisses Three (3) Lecturers

Image
Three lecturers of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) have been dismissed for allegedly soliciting for sex from some female students. The dismissed lecturers have, however, challenged the decision of the university to dismiss them. The authorities of the university say soliciting for sex from students “is a conduct that is likely to put the name of the university into disrepute”. Abortion Information pieced together by Graphic Online indicates that two of the lecturers had multiple sexual relationships with one of the students, resulting in her getting pregnant on two occasions. Sources close to the university said the student, who was assisted by one of the lecturers to terminate the first pregnancy, is said to have “nearly died after a medical officer friend of the lecturer prescribed medication for them to buy and subsequently assisted in inserting the medicine in her” vagina in the lecturer’s apartment. Information available indicates that when the stude

7 women and a pastor, arrested for praying naked during church service

Image
A group of worshipers, all said to be women, have been arrested by police in an unregistered church during what was said to be called a prayer session. Aside the pastor, all the worshipers were women and were naked. According to sources, the arrest took place on Tuesday at a private owned apartment in Rukiga, northern Uganda. The apartment was said to have belonged to the pastor, Adah Kahababo, who led the full gospel ministration. The police were tipped off by the husbands of these women who were angry that for almost a week their wives have been praying with Kahabab. The District Commissioner, Emmy Ngabirano was surprised and wanted to know why those women have to be naked before they could pray with ‘Adah Kahababo’. He said: “We respect the freedom of worship but people must follow the existing laws of operating a church and one of the requirements is to have it registered. The arrested people were holding an illegal assembly in someone’s house, which they claimed to be th

I’ve been poisoned on several occasions – Guru reveals

Image
Rapper Guru is counting his blessings after surviving several attempts on his life. According to the rapper, before the release of his latest album, ‘Journey of Judah’, he was poisoned on several occasions. The NKZ music boss said several attempts were made on his life including people poisoning the water he drinks and food he eats. “It wasn’t once. It was a continuous thing. [There are] different strategies that people use to poison people. Some will pass through food, some will pass through water anytime you are on stage you give your water to someone else and it’s a different ball game,” he told KMJ in an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM. Recounting one of the near-fatal incidents, he said, “the last time I was on stage performing, got on stage, the whole crowd jamming and all of a sudden you [take] water and your voice is not ‘popping’ up again, you can’t even talk…so you just have to move up.” The rapper, born Nana Yaw Adjei Yeboah Maradona, said he has endured a

Korle Bu Records 400 Breast Cancer Cases Annually

Image
Breast Cancer Device  Despite the series of breast cancer awareness creation in the country, over 400 cases of breast cancer are recorded annually at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. Out of this number, 10 are males. Dr Victoria Partey of the Trust Hospital revealed these startling figures in an interview with The Mirror after the launch of this year’s Pink October Breast Cancer Awareness month at the Trust Hospital. A study conducted by Dr Steven Lamptey of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital from 2012 to 2018 shows there were 2,160 cumulative cases of breast cancer in the past five years. “Out of this figure, 1,201 of the patients died. This is simply because between 60 and 70 per cent of the cases came in the advanced stage, putting the patients’ lives in more danger,” she explained. Dr Partey said the treatment of breast cancer in Ghana was very expensive, and some patients were unable to continue with treatment due to financial constraints

700 Ghost Mining Concessions Discovered

Image
The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, which is currently in the Central Region for the mapping of concessions owned by small-scale miners as part of the vetting process, have discovered that there are about 700 ghost mining concessions across the country. According to the Committee, out of the 1,350 small-scale mining licences that had been issued to the miners nationwide, only 650 of them reported when the committee members moved to the field to map and ascertain whether indeed the 1,350 concessions exist. “To our surprise only 650 small-scale miners reported when we went to the field for the mapping of the concessions which means that there are about 700 ghost concessions in the mining areas across Ghana,” the committee pointed out. They continued “it means that either people have mined them up and taken the gold out of the country without paying anything to the state or someone was negligent in issuing out the licences.” The Inter-Ministerial Commit
