Religious activities to begin as Akufo-Addo eases Coronavirus-induced restrictions

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has eased the restrictions imposed on religious activities in the country. He announced this on Sunday, May 31, 2020, during his tenth address to the nation on measures taken against the spread of the coronavirus disease. During the address, the President directed religious activities to commence beginning June 5, 2020, with only a maximum of 100 persons in a church or mosque. “As I stated in my May Day address, I’m now in a position to outline the roadmap for easing safely the restrictions. Ours is going to be a fazed approach involving a selective list of public gatherings based on the risk profile, socio-economic effect and most importantly, our capacity to enforce, respond and prevent a flare-up in our number of infections.  The Information Minister for Ghana, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has stated that  the government of Ghana has given permission to government of Kuwait to deport Ghanaian illegally staying in their country. The young girl who planted the Apple tree which has gone viral on social media after it started bearing fruits died some five years ago, family sources have told Starr News. Nana Ama Asantewaa, according to reports, planted the seed despite the popular perception that the fruit is an exotic breed and does not grow in Ghana. Adabraka: Angry youth vandalise police station, accuse officer of causing death of resident

Some youth of Adabraka Odorna in Accra who have been angered by the death of a fellow resident have vandalised the Adabraka police station. The residents blamed the police for the death of a man who fell and drowned in the Odaw drain. Scores of the residents besieged the police station with the body of the deceased man after the incident at the drain. They chanted angrily to express their displeasure over the issue. Nigeria Coronavirus Patients Protest Against 'Poor Care'

Dozens of coronavirus patients held a protest outside a treatment centre in the north-eastern Nigerian state of Gombe, saying the authorities were not taking good care of them. The patients complained of lack of drugs and proper feeding. They mingled with members of the community during the Tuesday evening demonstration and blocked a nearby highway in the village of Kwadon - about 8km (five miles) from the state capital. The state's health commissioner, Ahmed Gana, told the BBC that the patients were asymptomatic and did not require drugs. The authorities also deny the allegation about a lack of proper feeding. Officials later persuaded the demonstrators back into the treatment centre, but are worried about a possible spread of the virus to villagers who came out to witness the protest. Police find 3 bodies in fetish priest’s shrine

               The suspect, Power One, after he was arrested by the police The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has discovered three bodies behind the shrine of a fetish priest at Sakyikrom, a village near Adeiso in the Eastern Region, following a frantic search for the whereabouts of a pensioner who went missing in January this year. The three bodies — two men and a woman — who were alleged to have been gruesomely murdered by the fetish priest and his assistant, include the missing pensioner, aged about 64, who went missing from his residence at Kasoa on January 10, 2020. Poultry farmers cry out for help as industry nears collapse

The Vice Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers, Napoleon Agyemang Oduro has said the industry needs massive funding and incentives from government to save and sustain the country’s poultry industry. Domestically produced broiler meat has fallen from nearly 60 percent of all poultry consumed in Ghana since 2000 to less than 5 percent as at 2020. FDA Warns Against Use of Camphor as Coronavirus Treatment

The search for a working cure for the fast-spreading global pandemic, the Coronavirus keeps shooting up with different tales of successes and failures. Several people with different backgrounds have come to the fore with alternative suggestions of cures against the viral disease. The latest is the propagation of the use of naphthalene balls, commonly known as camphor or mothballs for the prevention and treatment of the COVID-19. An audio in circulation on social media is educating listeners to place the balls in hot water in order to inhale the vapour. But contrary to claims, the Food and Drugs Authority has sounded a stern caution to Ghanaians against heeding to the advice from the purported audio.
