Remain Calm, Investigation Underway To Arrest Murderers – Police To Family Of Shot Bawku Officer

The Ghana Police Service has urged the family of the late Constable Regina Angenu of the Paga Police Station in the Upper East Region to remain calm as investigation is underway to get her murderers arrested to face justice. The Police Officer was shot dead on Sunday, 23 January 2022 at Bawku by some unknown persons. “We extend our sincerest condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues and friends and also commiserate with them in this trying time,” a statement issued by the Police on Tuesday, 25 January 021 said. Constable Angenu died while off duty. She was shot by some unknown persons while on her motorbike to the Bawku Barracks. She was rushed to the Presbyterian Mission Hospital, Bawku where she passed away while receiving treatment. Source: class fm

Ghana maintains position on Corruption Perception Index; fails to make progress

  The latest Corruption Perception Index released by Transparency International shows that Ghana has failed to make progress in its fight against corruption. The latest report shows that between 2020 and 2021, Ghana maintained its score of 43, which is still below the average, with countries scoring higher viewed as less corrupt and those with the least scores being more corrupt. “This CPI score indicates that, Ghana failed to make progress in the fight against corruption in the year 2021 as the score of 43 is the same as the country’s 2020 score,” said Ghana Integrity Initiative, the local chapter of Transparency International, in a statement. Although Ghana’s score is classified as low, it is still above the Sub-Saharan Africa average of 33. Per the latest report, Seychelles 70, in the rank of 180 countries, tops the region followed by Cabo Verde, ranked 58 and Botswana ranked 55. Policewoman shot dead by unknown assailants at Bawku

    A policewoman, Constable Regina Angenu of the Paga Police Station, has been shot dead by some unknown assailants at Bawku in the Upper East Region. The Police in a statement indicated that “at about 5:00 pm on Sunday, January 23, 2022, the deceased, PW/Constable Regina Angenu of Paga Police Station paid a visit to Const. Erasmus Enkson of Bawku Division MTTU.” On their way to Constable Enkson’s barracks, they were attacked by unknown assailants, and the policewoman was shot in the groin. She died at the Presbyterian Mission Hospital while undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, the body has been sent to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for preservation and autopsy. Source:citinewsroom 

I wasn’t given military protection while serving as Speaker of Parliament – Oquaye

 A former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Michael Oquaye, has debunked claims that he was given military protection while serving as Speaker of the 7th Parliament of Ghana. His comments come on the back of reports that he was given military protection as Speaker of Parliament from 2017 to 2021; hence the current Speaker, Alban Bagbin, should also be given same. Over the weekend, news emerged that four military personnel protecting Mr. Bagbin had been withdrawn. This was captured in a letter the Chief of staff of the Ghana Armed Forces wrote to the Speaker, which explained that the four military officers were attached without proper procedure. Some persons had accused the governing New Patriotic Party of being selective because Prof. Oquaye also enjoyed protection from the military. Police place ¢5K bounty on the head of man who fired AK 47 unlawfully at A&C Mall

 The Police have placed a ¢5,000 bounty for information leading to the arrest of a man who was seen in a viral video firing a gun in public. In the video, the man was seen firing an AK 47 several times into the air at A&C Mall, East Legon on December 31, 2021, purportedly to welcome the New Year. In a statement, the Police said the action by the man is against Section 209 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29) which barres a person from discharging a firearm in public without lawful and necessary occasion. The Police have, therefore, called on persons with information on the man to report to them for his arrest and further prosecution. Two suspects arrested over death of US citizen at hotel in Accra

Police in Accra have arrested two persons in connection with the death of a US national at a hotel room at Abelemkpe, a suburb of Accra. The two suspects who are in the custody of the police, are currently assisting with investigations into the matter. The incident is said to have occurred on December 14, 2021, at Rayporsh Hotel, where the deceased, identified as Julie Diane Williams, was found dead. “In line with international best practice, after informing the family of the current state of the investigations, we are now in a position to make public certain details about the case without compromising the ongoing investigations.” "So far, Two people (names withheld) are currently in custody helping police investigations”, the police in a statement disclosed.
