Friends jailed for stealing mobile phone

The Nkawie Circuit Court has sentenced two friends to a total of five years imprisonment for stealing a mobile phone and cash at Adankwame. Godfred Wiafe 18, a motor rider and Bashiru Shaibu 21, a driver’s mate pleaded guilty and were convicted on their own plea. Detective Chief Inspector Comfort Amankwaa told the court presided by Mr Johnson Abbey that the convicts and the complainant reside at Adankwame in the Atwima-Nwabiagya North District. She said on June 22 this year, Shaibu reported his friend Wiafe, to the Adankwame Police for stealing his chain valued at GH¢50.00. Wiafe was arrested and in his cautioned statement admitted the offence but indicated that he took the chain because Shaibu had denied him his share of some item they conspired and stole from the complainant’s room the previous day. Chief Inspector Amankwaa said Shaibu was also arrested and after investigations, they were charged and brought before the court. Source:Adomonline

Court fines Ken Agyapong GH¢130k for lying about Anas, Kweku Baako

The High Court in Accra has given Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, 30 days to apologise three times on all platforms he used to defame Editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako. The Court in a ruling on Friday, June 26, has also ordered him to pay GH¢100,000 as damages and GH¢ as Mr. Baako’s legal cost. This followed the failure by the MP to prove his allegations that Mr. Baako and his protege, Anas Aremeyaw Anas of Tiger Eye P.I, are engaged in illegal mining popularly known as ‘galamsey’ and are fraudsters. The MP made the allegations after Anas released part one of his investigative piece on illegal mining dubbed ‘Galamsey fraud’. Mr Kennedy Agyapong had used words Mr Baako deemed were defamatory against him in addition to that, Mr Agyapong dared Baako to pursue a lawsuit against him. Robbers kill pastor’s pregnant wife, stab 3-yr-old daughter in Kumasi

A pregnant woman has died after she suffered knife wounds during a robbery attack at Heman/Ampatia New-Site, an urban community at Santasi near the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi. The incident occurred on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at about 1:30am, the police told Dailymailgh.com. The deceased, Juliana Adusei, 31, was declared dead by the officers at the scene. Police at Suntreso District, which is investigating the case, are appealing to residents in the area to volunteer information as a serious search for the three-member gang begins. Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye, has appealed to fallen New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament (MPs) not to abandon the work of Parliament following their defeat at the party’s primaries. He said the outcome of the primaries is usual with politics and so they should not let the defeat affect their contributions to proceedings in the House. Farmer, 58, murdered in front of his children

A 58-year-old farmer, identified as Kudjo Dakudzi, has allegedly been murdered at Somanya in the Eastern region over land litigation. The incident is said to have occurred in front of his two children with whom he was working on his farm on Wednesday. Mr Dakudzi’s assailants reportedly hit him with sticks multiple times in his rib before butchering him right in front of his children. A 32-year-old Martey Joshua, son of the deceased, narrating the incident to Accra-based radio station, Starr FM, said he was also in his farm when he received a call about the incident. “I anxiously rushed to the scene and saw my father lying dead in his farm at Akorley Foah with blood all over his body; with cutlass wounds inflicted on him,” he said. This, however, is a typical example as a politician in Benue state has donated ropes to the members of his community so that they can tie their goats.  Our portal gathered Daniel Ukpera, who contested for the Guma State Constituency seat in the 2019 Benue State House of Assembly Election under the platform of Labour Party, donated bundles of ropes to the people of Makurdi LGA in Benue State. After making the donation, he assisted the goat owners to tie their goats then posed for photos with the grateful recipients. You cannot use sex as payment for rent – Rent Control warns

The Rent Control Department has cautioned landlords to desist from demanding sex from female tenants as cost, for their rent. The Department told ‘Nyankonton Mu Nsem’ on Rainbow Radio that it is unlawful for any landlord to give out their rooms for rent in exchange for sex or any material thing in place of rent apart from the approved rate. Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Department, Mr. Emmanuel Kposu said this is contrary to Section 25 (1) (b) of the rent law. Both the landlord and tenant would go into agreement contrary to the approved rate by the Rent Control Department. This act he added is punishable by law and stressed the need for tenants and landlords to take note of it. The PRO further advised landlords to stop charging more than six months’ rent. He stated that no landlord has the right to charge more than six months’ rent advance. Some parts of Accra are flooded following hours of rains. The rains started during the late hours of Monday, June 8, 2020. The worst affected areas include Adabraka Sahara, Adabraka Timbaland, Adabraka Aponkye, Odorna, Kingsby Junction, Graphic Road, Agbgbloshie and surrounding areas. Some of the residents of Adabraka told Esnewsgh that they started seeing a lot of water rushing through their drains even before the rains started. The Ghana Meteorological Agency has also warned of a rainstorm which is expected to hit the eastern and coastal areas of the country today, Tuesday, June 9, 2020. A statement from the Agency said, although the “thunderstorm” will affect the eastern portions of the country, most places in the coast are also expected to be affected. ECG to cut power supply to these areas 7 hours daily

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has announced that it will cut power supply to some parts of the Greater Accra Region for about seven hours each day. The power cut which takes effect from June 8, 2020 is to pave way for a planned maintenance work to enhance the power distributor’s operations. The outfit, in a statement, said the power will go off each day from 10:am to 5:pm in the affected areas. The affected areas include Haatso, Mallam Junction, MaCharty Hill, Weija Junction, Tetegu, Villagio, West Legon, Adiriganor, Samoa Valley and Dansoman. Meanwhile, ECG has apologised for any inconvenience the power cut will cause.

A prostitute has confessed that the Coronavirus (COVID-19) disease has negatively affected their sex business. Eunice in an interview on Angel 102.9FM’s Evening News on Friday confessed that prior to the coming of the disease into this country, she used to make money from the business but now the ‘sales’ has been affected badly. “This disease has badly affected us negatively, previously we were making some good returns but that is not the case now because of the COVID-19…,” the make-up artiste turned prostitute confessed in an exclusive interview on the news. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has invited Director of News at Angel 102.9 FM, Kofi Adomah, for predicting correctly the contents of President Akufo-Addo’s speech on Sunday. The head of news of the media organisation responded to the invitation Wednesday afternoon, June 3, 2020. General Manager of Angel FM, Kwadwo Dickson, accompanied the broadcaster to the Headquarters of the CID in Accra. Mr. Dickson told DJ Willie, the host of Bumper to Bumper drive time show that the invitation followed a video recording aired on Kofi TV, which is operated by journalist, ahead of the address by President Akufo-Addo. Dr Christian Kwabena Andrews popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom has said that he is not ready to go by the President’s directive for partial re-opening of churches. The President, Nana Akufo-Addo, during the presentation of the 10th Address to the nation on actions that the government is undertaking to stop the spread of the disease, announced the re-opening of churches.
