Emelia Brobbey to release remix of “Fa Me Kɔ” hit single

Ghanaian actress cum musician, Emelia Brobbey, has performed a remix of her much anticipated ‘Fa Me Kɔ’ hit single. The song earlier went viral on all social media platforms when it was first released in December 2019. It caught the attention of a lot of music enthusiasts who discussed it upon its release. Emelia confessed that she has learnt her lessons from earlier mistakes therefore, subsequent track records from her are going to be devoid of previous short falls. The song, which is a highlife tune, features Prince  Bright of ‘Buk Bak’ fame and promises to lead charts in the coming days. Emelia announced the arrival of the song on her Instagram page. Righteous Vandyke and Ohemaa Philis are out with a peace song

Righteous Vandyke of Adom TV’s ‘Nsoroma’ fame, has partnered musician, Ohemaa Philis in a peace song dubbed, ‘Ghana Sombo’ in a bid to promote peace in this year’s general elections. In an interview with Ohemaa Woyeje on ‘Y’adwuma Nie’ on Angel 102.9 FM on Monday, July 27, 2020, Rigtheous Vandyke revealed that, his team decided to put this song together in order to promote peace before, during and after elections. He, however, confessed that despite composing a peace song for elections he doesn’t know anything about politics and elections. Ghanaians will enjoy another three months of free water and electricity supply as government further reduces the burden of the Covid-19 pandemic on the citizenry. The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta who announced this during his Mid-year Budget review said it is because government puts the concerns and aspirations of the ordinary Ghanaian first. “That is also why we further reduced electricity prices by half and completely provided potable water for free for everybody since March this year. And we will extend it for another three months,” he told Parliament, Thursday. In April this year, the president announced three months of free electricity for consumers of a particular category, to make up for lost income following a lockdown in Accra and Kumasi due to the Covid-19 pandemic. 20 killed in Nigeria road tanker explosion

A road tanker carrying petroleum products exploded in southern Nigeria on Wednesday killing at least 20 people. The incident occurred at a major intersection of the highway linking the states of Edo and Delta. Fatal accidents are frequent on Nigeria’s poorly maintained road network. Witnesses say many of the victims were caught up in the fire while trying to scoop petrol from the tanker which had crashed. The fire quickly spread to some other vehicles on the highway. A Delta state government spokesman told the BBC that the road tanker had tried to navigate a bad spot on the highway when its driver lost control. It overturned and its content poured onto the surrounding ditches and potholes. It was while the people were scooping petrol that the explosion occurred. Three weeks ago some 35 people were killed in northern Benue state when a road tanker exploded near their village. A second-year student of the Ejisu Secondary Technical Senior High School has been hospitalised after drinking liquid soap in what is believed to be an attempted suicide on campus. This was after an Assistant Headmaster locked him up with a colleague, overnight, in his office, for stealing the school’s electric stabiliser on Tuesday night, July 21, 2020. According to school authorities, the two were brought in by a taxi driver who allegedly caught them climbing over the school wall with the machine. Comic actor, Samuel Seth Kwabena Karikari, known as Koo Ofori has revealed that a mistake on the part of a doctor at a private medical facility where his late wife had gone to deliver a baby led to her death. According to him, the doctor left one of the medical tools used for a Cesarean Section (CS) in her tummy after they had succeeded in taking out the baby. Man arrested after body parts found in room

A 20-year-old man, Samuel Asare is in police grips at Anum-Boso in the Asuogyamag District of the Eastern region after human parts were found in his room. According to the Ghana Police Service, the suspect’s father, Amoako Attah reported him after finding bones suspected to be human parts in his room. Police followed up to the house and mounted a search in the suspect’s room. 37-year-old man commits suicide at Nkawkaw

A 37-year-old man has allegedly committed suicide by hanging at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region. A resident James Alley reported to Nkawkaw Central Police on Monday July 13, 2020 at about 2:10pm that same day at about 1:30pm he had information that a man had hanged himself at the back of his late father’s residence at Nkawkaw Kuma a suburb of Nkawkaw township. 10 more SHSs hit by COVID-19 … Ho Mawuli, Bishop Herman, Archbishop Porter Girls among others affected

Some 10 more Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the country have recorded positive cases of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), bringing the number of schools infected with the disease to 14. The schools include Mawuli and Mawuko Girls’ SHS in the Ho municipality, the Bishop Herman College in Kpando and Dabala Technical School, all in the Volta region. The rest are Archbishop Porter Girls, Ahantaman Girls, Diabene and Adiembra SHS, all in the Takoradi municipality as well as Nsein SHS in the Nzema East District and the Suhum Senior High Technical School (STHS) in the Western and Eastern Regions, respectively. In the Volta region, the Mawuli and Dabala Technical Schools had recorded three cases of the disease each, two cases at the Bishop Herman College, while, a case had been confirmed at Mawuko Girls’ SHS. Woman dumps baby at toilet facility moments after delivery

Residents of Bremang in the Suame Constituency of the Ashanti Region, were thrown into a state of shock on Friday, July 10, 2020, when they discovered a fresh baby at a public lavatory at Bremang. The baby girl was found wrapped and dumped in a bin in the facility shortly after it was delivered. A lady who visited the toilet early morning, chanced on the bizarre incident and dragged it out. The runaway mother is said to have gagged the baby girl with tissue paper and left her to die. An eyewitness, Oheneba Kwabena Gyebi, said, the “good Samaritan” heard its cries from inside the public toilet and drew people’s attention to it. The timely intervention of the passerby and other members of the community saved the child from dying. Kenyan schools told to refund 2020 fees

Kenya’s education minister has said schools should either refund parents the school fees paid for this academic year or agree to forward it to next year. The minister George Magoha was responding to concerns raised after his Tuesday announcement that Kenya’s primary and secondary schools would not reopen until 2021. Mr Magoha said the coronavirus cases in the country were rising. The ministry said all students will resume studies in their current classes. Those in their final years will not sit for this year’s national examinations. Parents had expressed concern over school fees paid for this year. The students only studied in January and February before schools were closed in March after the first coronavirus cases were recorded. Some parents were concerned because students are paying for online classes yet they will repeat the same class next year. Mother of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Senior High School student, who died on Tuesday, has given a harrowing and chilling account of how her son lost his life. The boy who was suffering from severe stomachache was left in the hands of colleague students for several hours without any move by the school authorities to get first aid administered on him, madam Comfort narrated on Angel102.9 FM on Wednesday. Whilst some students were seen in a viral video trying to save the life of their colleague, some teachers were spotted standing distance away as many feared the boy might have contracted the deadly coronavirus. The deceased, Richard Sam, had been a day student for over two years but had to join his colleagues in the boarding house after schools were re-opened for final year students in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. Madam Comfort noted that her son was an ulcer patient and even tried visiting him on Sunday, July 5 but was turned away.

Covid-19: Kenya Announces All National Exams Canceled As Schools Remain Closed Till 2021

Kenya’s Education Cabinet Secretary (CS), George Magoha, has announced that stakeholders have shelved schools reopening until 2021. Speaking to the press, Mr Magoha explained that Primary and secondary schools will resume next year in January with a phased reopening of colleges and universities on a case by case study. He stated that that 2020’s school calendar “Should be considered lost” owning to the coronavirus pandemic that saw all learning institutions through out the country close in mid March. “In consultation with Ministry of Health we have agreed schools to reopen when daily Covid-19 cases reduce consistently for 14 days. Social and physical distancing is the most critical factor in ensuring safety of learners,” the CS said in his press statment. “Inter-county movement of students will cause severe challenges with high incidents of infections. Transport fares up by 15%

Government has increased transport fares across board by 15 per cent. Commuters across the country should therefore expect to pay more for transportation effective Saturday, 11th July, 2020. Deputy Minister of Transport, Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover confirmed the increment to journalists in parliament on Tuesday. He said “the expected increment would be across board affecting taxis, commercial buses (trotro), long distance vehicles and cargo trucks”. Explaining the reason for the increment, he said the COVID-19 pandemic has hindered commercial drivers and taxis from loading passengers to full capacity. This increment is therefore to make up for that loss to drivers. He added that everyone should know that both government and the transport unions have agreed on the 15% therefore notices should be placed at vantage points to that effect. Information Minister, Hon Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, who confirmed this at the regular press briefing in Accra on Tuesday morning, added that the disclosure was with the tacit permission of Mr Osafo Maafo. According to him, the decision to also publicize the Senior Minister's health status was in line with government's transparency. Madagascar Imposes Lockdown To Curb Coronavirus Infections

Madagascar has placed one of its main regions, which covers the capital, Antananarivo, back under a strict lockdown following a surge in coronavirus infections. The government announced that the lockdown would come into effect on Monday and end on 20 July. It will include a ban on traffic in and out of the region and a curfew on the movement of people on the street. "Only one person per household is allowed to go out into the street between 06:00 and 12:00," the government said in a statement. The lockdown is meant to slow the spread of the virus, authorities explained. There are 2,941 confirmed cases, and 32 people have died since the virus was first detected on the island in March. CSOs, Individuals Sue Government Over Exploration At Atewa Forest

Seven Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and four private citizens, have jointly sued the Government over the exploration and drilling of deep wells in the Atewa Forest Reserve. Mr Martin Kpebu, the counsel for the plaintiffs filed the writ against the Attorney General at the General Jurisdiction Court (High Court) Division. The CSOs are : A Rocha Ghana, Flower Ghana, Concern Citizens of Atewa Landscape, Ghana Youth Movement, Ecocare Ghana, Kasa Initiative Ghana and Save the Frogs Ghana. The private citizens are: Awula Serwah, Oteng Adjei, Boakye Twumasi- Ankrah and Nana Asante. The plaintiffs, in their write, are seeking an order compelling the Government and its agents to declare the Atewa Range Forest (ARF) as a "Protected Zone" and take steps to protect the forest in accordance with its constitutional obligation, as contained under Article 36 (9) of the 1992 Constitution. COVID-19: Mac Manu, Carlos Ahenkorah at Korle Bu ICU

  Manu and Carlos Ahenkorah have tested positive for coronavirus Peter Mac Manu, the 2020 Campaign Manager of the New Patriotic Party, and the Deputy Minister of Trade, Carlos Ahenkorah, have been admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. The two have been confirmed as testing positive for the deadly COVID-19. The pandemic which was first recorded in Ghana on March 12 has claimed 117 lives so far and infected over 18,000 persons as of July 1, 2020. Voters’ register: Catholic Church ‘shuts’ buildings to EC staff over coronavirus

 Catholic churches in the Konongo-Mampong Diocese would not make their premises available to the Electoral Commission to be used as voters’ registration centres, unless conditions set out by the Diocese are met by the EC. Bishop of the Diocese, Most Rev. Joseph Osei-Bonsu in a statement mentioned two conditions the Commission would have to meet before their doors would be opened to EC staff. The church is demanding a formal letter from the EC asking permission to use their facilities as well as complying strictly with protocols outlined by the government to curb the spread of the deadly coronavirus. According to the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, religious bodies should regularly clean and disinfect frequently used communal places and frequently touched surfaces such as ddoorknobs/handles, preferably every 1-2 hours depending on the rate of utilization.
