Akufo-Addo takes decision on academic year for nursery, primary pupils

 The Ghana Education Service (GES), after extensive consultations, has postponed the resumption of the academic year for schools to January 2021. This includes pupils in nursery, kindergarten, primary, Junior High School (JHS) 1, as well as Senior High School (SHS) 1 students. President Nana Akufo-Addo announced this in his 16th televised address to the nation on the updates of measures to curb the spread of coronavirus. He noted appropriate adjustments will be made in the curriculum to ensure nothing is lost from the previous year. Meanwhile, JHS 2 pupils and SHS 2 students are expected to resume on October 5, 2020, to December 14, 2020, to complete their academic year.

Young girl butchered and disposed in a bush at Gomoa Lome

  Young girl of about 20 years has been found dead at Gomoa Lome, a community in the Gomo Central District of the Central Region. According to the Assemblymember of Gomoa Lome/Dahum Alectoral Area, Mr. Stephen Mensah, they know no identity of the deceased and believes the corps was disposed in the community.  The deceased wrist and parts of her legs were chopped off while lying down naked. He called on the the police to patrol the area to ensure the safety of his people as similar cases has been recorded for about three years now.

Man inflicts knife wounds on wife, two-year-old son

 A native at Abebuom, a village in the Assin South District of the Central region, Baba Abubakar, has allegedly inflicted knife wounds on his wife and two-year-old son. The suspect is said to have committed the act after his wife separated him in a fight with one Osman, who took advantage of the intervention from the wife and knocked him down. Narrating the incident on Rainbow Radio, Oheneba Ambrose said the accused alleged that Osman had stolen GH¢ 10.00 from a contribution some residents made to be used as transport fare to another village where a new Mosque was being commissioned. However, it was revealed that the money was handed over to the Imam who aided in the commissioning. Angered by the incident, Osman went to the accused’s residence to fight him. It was during the fight that his wife’s attempt to separate them led to a punch that led to his fall. The man of God who tied the knot with Vivian Agyinasare more than three decades ago posted a moving message to her for accepting to spend the rest of her life with him. “This month marks 35 sweet years of marriage to this lovely lady”. “Honey, it was an honour to have left my father and mother to be joined to you for life. Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) announces emergency shutdown of Weija Water Plant for repairs

 The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has announced an emergency shutdown of the Weija Water Plant. This is to allow repair works to be done on the major pipeline that supplies water to the Western part of Accra. This was contained in a statement from the GWCL. Below is the statement from GWCL EMERGENCY SHUT DOWN Good morning cherished customers, we’re sorry to inform you that there has been an emergency shutdown of the Weija Plant to enable us to carry out some emergency repair works on the major pipeline that supplies water to the Western parts of Accra. The affected areas include: Bortianor, Weija, Tetegu, Gbawe, Mallam, Dansoman, Mamprobi, Korle-Bu, Mataheko, Awudome Estates, Kwashiman, Awoshie, Tesano, Abeka, North Kaneshie, Kaneshie, Odorkor, Dakuman, Sowutuom, Santamaria, and adjoining communities. Nigerian Boy, 13, Jailed For Blaspheming God

 An Islamic court in northern Nigeria's Kano state has sentenced a 13-year-old boy to 10 years in prison for blasphemy. The child was accused of making uncomplimentary remarks about God. In a separate case before the court, 22-year-old musician Yahaya Sharif-Aminu was sentenced to death by hanging after being found guilty of making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad in a song. A spokesman for the court, Baba Jibo Ibrahim, told the BBC the boy and singer have the right to appeal against the sentences within 30 days. Kano is one of several states in the mainly-Muslim north that practise the Islamic legal system alongside the country’s secular laws.

12 yr old boy who stabbed father to death arrested with mother

The Bodwesango Police Command has arrested 50-year-old woman Grace and his 12-year-old son Kwadwo Acquah who stabbed his 60-year-old father to death at Adansi Pipiiso in the Fomena District of the Ashanti Region. The unfortunate incident happened on Sunday August 9, 2020 when the father allegedly accused his son of stealing GHC70 which sparked misunderstanding between the deceased and his son. The boy who was angry inflicted machete wounds on his deceased father for accusing him of stealing the money. Fomena District Police Commander, Superintendent Albert Nii Otchere speaking in an interview with Pure FM’s Osei Kwadwo said the woman and her son reported themselves to the Bodwesango Police Command after running away from the community after the incident. EC registers over 16 million prospective voters

The Electoral Commission (EC) has registered a total of 16,663,669 prospective voters at the end of the nationwide Voters Register Exercise. Dr Bossman Eric Asare, Deputy Chairman in charge of Corporate Services,EC, who announced this at the Commission’s, “Let the Citizen Know” series in Accra, said the figure was provisional. He said “four top regions” had maintained their positions, but the Greater Accra region lost some grounds in percentage terms from 21.34 per cent to 20.8 per cent of the total registered with the Ashanti Region also going down marginally by 0.1 per cent to its current 17.9 per cent. The Deputy Chairman said both the Eastern and the Central regions maintained their previous 9.6 per cent and 9.3 percent respectively, while the Western, Western North, Upper West, Northern, and Upper East regions saw an increase in percentage terms. One dies as building collapses on 3 kids

  A dilapidated building has collapsed on three children at Dormaa Ahenkro-Nkyenkyenkye in the Dormaa Central of the Bono Region, killing one of them. The children namely Listowell 10 years, Pius 9 years and Rockson 10 years were playing football around the weak building when the ball accidentally entered the building. Immediately they went into the old structure to pick the ball, it collapsed on them on Tuesday. The boys who were seriously injured were rushed to Dormaa Government Hospital but Listowell unfortunately died of his wounds. Angry final year Students of Adanwomase Senior High School (SHS) in the Kwabre East District of the Ashanti Region, on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, embarked on a demonstration after questions they expected in the Integrated Science paper did not appear. The angry students vandalised the school’s dining hall and destroyed some properties in the schools. Some of the students said “Our teachers gave us a book to study in 2019 which they told us the book is from President Akufo-Addo. AMA orders squatters along Odaw River to vacate

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has served notices to squatters who have settled along the shoulders of the Odaw River from Avenor to Adabraka to vacate or face forceful eviction. This is to facilitate the dredging of the river. The Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mohammed Adjei Sowah, gave the order when he led a joint ‘Operation Covid-19 Safety’ and Sanitation Taskforce team to inspect the ongoing dredging of the river. He was accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executives of Korle Klottey and Okaikwei North, Nii Adjei Tawiah, and Nii Boye Laryea respectively with other officers from Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and Zoomlion Ghana Limited.  Mr Adjei Sowah said the ongoing two-year dredging of the Odaw River and the Korle Lagoon was part of efforts to prevent flooding and rid the city of filth.
