  An Accra High Court has ordered the parties in a suit in which a dissatisfied customer sued oil marketing company, Vivo Energy Ghana Limited, operators of Shell fuel outlets in Ghana for allegedly selling contaminated fuel to him, to reach a settlement agreement. The customer, Edmund Barwuah, who bought the petrol laced with water at the Atimpoku Shell filling station in the Eastern Region, filed the suit on September 19, 2022. Edmund Barwuah said he purchased the diluted fuel on August 28, 2022, at Atimpoku near the Adomi Bridge. Among other things, the complainant wanted the court to compel the defendant to pay him $2.5 million as compensation for the damage to his car, a business meeting he missed on the said day, which he said could have resulted in a business deal worth more than the $2.5million due to Vivo Energy’s negligence.  The Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has appealed to feuding factions in Bawku to stop engaging in the exchange of fire with military officers. The appeal follows reports of the military killing seven civilians in Bawku in the Upper East Region. The accusation which was first made by the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has been refuted by the Ghana Armed Forces. The military, however, claimed that they engaged some armed men and in the process neutralised six people. “In a separate incident, sporadic firing was heard around Sabongari General Area. A Patrol Team dispatched to assess the situation spotted unknown armed men at Gozesi-Valley side in Sabongari wearing black T-shirts with Black Hoodies. Troops engaged them and neutralised six (6) armed men.  The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into an alleged incident at the West Hills Mall that led to the death of a 32-year-old man, Shadrach Arloo. In a press release dated January 31, 2023, the Police administration said its officials had contacted a relative of the deceased, Perpetual Didier, who first made the allegation in a viral audio. “The attention of the Police Service has been drawn to a viral video in which a female who identifies herself as Perpetual Didier alleges that the action of a Police Officer has caused the death of her brother. “The Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) has commenced investigation into the allegation and has contacted Madam Perpetual Didier to assist the investigation,” Assist. Superintendent of Police, Victor K Dosso assured in the press release.

 A 25-year-old man has been shot dead by some military men at Hobor in the Ga South Municipality in the Greater Accra region. Reports say the deceased, Alfred Awuku, was shot after he attempted to take a rifle belonging to one of the officers. Two other persons including the Wulomo of Kweku Pamfo also sustained an injury as a result of a dispute that broke out between the community members and the military officers who were protecting a parcel of land in the community. There were indications that the military officers were protecting the parcel of land belonging to a developer. An attempt by some members of the community to grade the land for onward development resulted in the altercation. The Assemblyman for Hobor, Peter Adonu, speaking to the media about the development said six military officers ordered the workers on the land to stop work but Alfred Awuku protested and threatened to fight the solder before he was shot.

A 20-year-old Kenyan man has confessed to the gruesome murder of his grandmother.   Appearing before Mombasa principal magistrate Vincent Adet, the suspect identified as Abdulaziz Ali Swaleh told the court that shortly after joining Illuminati cult, he was instructed to kill his grandmother. Swaleh said; "It's true l killed her. The Government of Ghana has cautioned Ghanaians against travelling to China as Covid-19 cases spike in the Asian country. In a travel alert, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, said as much as possible, only essential trips should be undertaken until further notice. The Foreign Affairs Ministry also stated that effective Friday, January 6, all persons travelling from China to Ghana will have to produce a 48-hour negative PCR test and undergo mandatory antigen testing at a point of entry free of charge until further notice. Tears flow as four siblings have been electrocuted after attempting to steal transmission cables. The Residents of Awoja Village in Soroti District, Uganda were thrown in a mourning when these four siblings were electrocuted on Monday morning November 28, 2022. Two of the siblings died instantly, while the other two were seriously injured and taken to hospital. SP Ageca Oscar Gregg, spokesman for the East Kyoga Regional Police, confirmed the incident and announced that the bodies of the two siblings would be released to the family for burial unless they received the report of doctor’s autopsy before handing it over. According to reports, Epou, 29, and his other brother Moses Atachu 28 years of age died instantly. The other two seriously injured people are Samuel Esuri, 23, and his younger brother, whose name has been withheld.  The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced a 27.15% increase in tariff for electricity and 21.55% increase in water tariff effective September 1, 2022. This comes after utility companies including the Electricity Company of Ghana and Ghana Water Company Limited proposed an increase in tariffs by 148% and 334% respectively. PURC however explains that the decision was arrived at after rigorous analysis and extensive consultations with industry players, as well as an assessment of the economic conditions of consumers.  Government has imposed a fine of $6 million on Maxam Ghana Limited, the company at the centre of the explosion that occurred at Appiate in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region, which killed some 13 people and destroyed the entire community. This was disclosed by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor on Monday, February 7, 2022. According to a press statement issued by the Minister, the amount is made up of $1 million fine and $5 million, which the company agreed with the Ministry, after extensive discussions, to pay to the government. The statement said the fine was imposed after the report of the three-member committee constituted by the Minister to undertake independent investigations into the matter affirmed some regulatory breaches on the part of the company, in the manufacture, storage and transportation of explosives for mining and other civil works.
